What is emotional wellness and what can you do to improve it so you can live a more fulfilled life?  In this post, we’ll cover what it is and provide 10 activities (they’re simple, don’t worry) you can work into your daily routine.

Emotional wellness is the awareness of your emotions and how you manage negative feelings.

So, why does it matter to have good emotional health??  It matters so you can cope with life and all its challenges.

We live in strange times!

COVID came into our lives 4 years ago.  Yet, we are STILL seeing and dealing with a lot of the changes and challenges it brought with it (this post is not about COVID, but we are living in its aftermath…all of these years later).

This post is here to help you understand the components of emotional wellness and to share 10 tips to actively improve your emotional wellness.

Understanding Emotional Wellness

Key components:
  1. Self-awareness
  2. Self-regulation
  3. Stress management
  4. Resilience
  5. Emotional intelligence

Affirmation: I release all negative thoughts and emotions

The fact is life is challenging.  We all go through many changes as we grow.  We get married, have children, lose a job, lose a loved one.  Maybe we get divorced, a child moves away from home, or we get that big job promotion we’ve been working so hard for.

Or…maybe we have more social anxiety given what happened four years ago!  I know I REALLY got used to working from home, not going out to eat, and just staying in my cocoon called home.

However, I’m an introvert so it was really kind of nice!  But…I believe I was in the minority with that feeling.

So, let’s break down 10 activities you can do, today, to improve your emotional wellness.  Because the sooner you start, the quicker you’ll feel more in charge of your emotions. And won’t that feel good!?

Activities to start today:

  1. Get outside and go for a walk.
  2. Have a dance party of one.
  3. Meditate or practice breath-work.
  4. Schedule some quiet time to read or enjoy some tea.
  5. Start a new hobby or do something that feels fun.
  6. Watch or listen to something that makes you laugh.
  7. Schedule time with friends (be social).
  8. Be of service in your community.
  9. Check in with yourself to see how you’re feeling.
  10. Practice gratitude for what you currently have in your life.
  11. BONUS: See a counselor, therapist or coach to get extra support. You can schedule a FREE discovery call with me here.

While these activities sound great, how can they be easily implemented into our day?

Ideas for daily implementation:

While getting up earlier in the morning may be more difficult for some than others, it’s always my number one tip.

Set your alarm 30 minutes (to start) to an hour earlier than your normally scheduled wake-up time.  Why you ask??

Because the morning is the easiest time of day to ensure things on your to-do list get done.  Especially new things.

So, before life gets in the way, I want you to wake up earlier.  Pour yourself some coffee or tea.  Get cozy on the couch and read for 10-15 minutes.  Meditate for 10-15 minutes.  Write in a gratitude journal for 10-15 minutes.  (A great resource to help with this is my 31-day journal that I’ve created for you!)

Starting your mornings this way ensures quiet time, gratitude and self-check ins.  Check, check and check!

You can do one or all of these AND/OR go for a walk or some form of physical activity that you enjoy.

Maybe you can meet a friend for coffee before you need to go into work.  Not only will you get some friend and social time in, but you’ll also get some fresh air and hopefully some laughter to start your day!

Another great way to shift your emotional wellness in the morning is to play your favorite genre of music while you’re getting ready for your day.  Music naturally shifts our emotions and mood.

Because being of service to your community might not be an easy daily activity for your schedule, if you could implement into your weekly or monthly schedule you will see great improvement in your emotional wellness.
